About this Resource

The resources on this website are based on research carried out by the NZ Federation of Vocational and Support Services (VASS) and Standards and Monitoring Services (SAMS) in 2009. The research looked at what organisations were doing to develop effective practice in the area of supporting people with disabilities to participate in their communities (Community Participation).

The research identified that there were eight key areas of effective practice. Each area is inter-connected and organisations are encouraged to look at these resources holistically, rather than in isolation.

Each resource contains key points for effective practice, and links to further information. The resources are designed to provide organisations with ideas and points for discussion in order to develop their own effective practices.

We are grateful for support from the Lotteries Community Research Fund which has assisted us in the research and development of these resources.
